Flexible Displays Are Everywhere At MWC 2019, Even On Nubia’s Smartwatch

Wearable Smartphone: Nubia Alpha

Nubia Alpha With 4-inch Foldable OLED Display Is A Smartwatch Or A Smartphone?

This year in MWC, foldable phones are the talk of the town. The foldable display enables devices to attain newer form factors which make them exciting. But ZTE took it to other levels by unveiling ‘Nubia Alpha’ – a smartphone that can be wrapped around your wrist. Or we can call it as a ‘wearable smartphone’. It was, however, originally shown at IFA 2018.

The ZTE’s Nubia Alpha features four-inch flexible OLED display which is protected by a strong, heat-resistant polymer called Polyimide. The Company claims it to be the largest wearable flexible screen in the industry. Moreover, It also promotes it as a smartphone which wraps around the wrist, but it is actually a smartwatch.

What Features You Get?

The device runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset. Nubia Alpha also comes with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. Under the hood comes a 500mAH battery which should last between one and two days on a single charge, Company claims. Further, The wearable has Bluetooth, WiFi, and 4G eSIM support. All these features will let you text, call and browse the web without a conventional smartphone nearby.

There’s even a 5-megapixel camera, but we are not expecting much. Additionally, there is a gesture control feature, which allows you to wave your finger over the device to get it to scroll up and down, or left and right. It also features basic smartwatch functionality like fitness tracker with basic sleep, exercise and heart rate monitoring. You can even watch a movie, however, It would be unbearable to keep a hand at the right angle in the air for hours.

Nubia Alpha Price And Availability

The watch will be available in two options – Bluetooth version and eSIM version. The not so good looking smartwatch will cost you around Rs 36,000. The Nubia Alpha price further go up to Rs 52,000 for the 18K Gold variant. Hopefully, We can expect the following generations to sport a design, that’s more practical just as the case with Foldable phones.
