AMD Unveils the Embedded Radeon E9170 GPU Based on Polaris Architecture

Though the enthusiast community is all abuzz about high-performance Radeon RX Vega 56/64graphics cards based on the Vega structure, AMD also produces graphics cards that appeal to a more discerning clientele. That is where AMD’s Embedded company comes into play, and the division is currently launching the Embedded Radeon E9170 Series GPUs now.
Based on the familiar 14nm FinFET Polaris structure, the Embedded Radeon E9170 Series is firmly in the middle of this AMD’s low-power graphics portfolio. Members of the family include the E9174/E9172, that are MXM-based, the E9171, that can be availed at an MCM form-factor, and also the PCIe-based E9175/E9173.

Each SKU is tailored to satisfy the needs of a vast array of industries. As an instance, the PCIe cards might be utilized in casino game machines that don’t really need to worry about vibrations which could compromise the electrical connection to the system board and remain stationary. The MCM version might be incorporated which makes it perfect for power cockpit displays for military and aerospace industries.

This embedded Radeon feature 8 calculate units, support up to five simultaneous screens (all can be 4K), supports 4K HEVC decode and encode, have an entire board power of 35 watts to 50 watts, and offer peak single precision performance of 1.2 TFLOPs. Additionally, AMD plans to make chips in this series accessible and will support it.

“Programmers are continuing to push the bounds of what’s possible for embedded systems, demanding more performance, more features and more layout options, all while significantly reducing power consumption. At the GPU level, it’s critical to offer versatile solutions which do not compromise on graphics performance or 4K multi-display capacities,” said Colin Cureton, director of product management, AMD Enterprise Solutions.

“The new AMD Embedded Radeon E9170 collection GPU not only reaches around 3X the performance-per-watt over past solutions but is the initial ‘Polaris’-established design GPU available from the MCM form factor to enable sleek designs in many different sizes, striking the best balance of performance and power efficiency.”

AMD will make the PCIe and MXM module versions of the Embedded Radon E9170 Series accessible later in October. The MCM version will start shipping in November.
