Nokia Would Soon Develop 5G Technology: Expands Bengaluru R&D Centre

Finnish telecom giant Nokia would soon develop 5g technology in India at it’s expanded Bengaluru R&D centre.

“We will be strengthening our staff at our R & D center in Bangalore in 2018 to focus on next-generation technologies that include the 5G Voice over LTE (long-term development or standard wireless communication) wireless architecture Terminals and data terminals), cloud and big data analytics, “said Rupa Santosh, director of Nokia’s R & D center, to reporters in Bangalore.

The next telecommunications standard is expected to be the fifth generation or 5G mobile networks developed by global telecoms companies by 2020. They will replace the current 4G and allow voice traffic, data and video higher speeds through faster bandwidth.

“We are already working with 14 industrial and academic partners from the European Union to study 5G mobile network architecture,” said Santosh.

However, the company did not announce how many employees will be employed in India by 2018 to expand its workforce by 6,000 engineers with one of its four global R & D centers, two of them in Europe and one in China.

“We also set up our own 5G / IoT lab to work on applications for smart cities and public safety, real-time city monitoring and smart parking,” said Santosh.

The company is working with telecoms providers such as Bharti Airtel and the state of BSNL to help transform their 5G networks into the near future.

Priyank Kharge, Minister of Information Technology, Karnataka, introduced the new R & D facilities at his Innovation Day, an annual event where Nokia showcases its partners’ latest technologies and products, including customers, governments, universities and start-ups. ,

“The Bangalore Research Center will also enable Indian and international service providers to leverage our technology and build capacity for future technologies,” Mr. Santosh added.
