Samsung Launched Its next-generation mobile chipset ‘Exynos 9820’ Today.

As expected Samsung unveiled the Exynos 9820 (9th series) today in China with a tagline ‘Extraordinary wisdom, born from the inside’.Exynos 9820

It is based on the 8nm LPP (Low Power Plus) FinFET process which tends to consume 10 percent less power compared to the 10nm process; as claimed by the company. Whereas,  Huawei‘s Kirin 980 and Apple‘s A12 Bionic chipsets are manufactured using the 7nm process.

The SoC integrates a 4th generation custom CPU that consists of two custom cores, two ARM Cortex-A75 cores, and four ARM Cortex-A55 cores. One of the greatest area of improvement in Exynos 9820 as compared to previous chipset 9810 is the addition of Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for AI tasks. As compared to its predecessor it offers seven times more the artificial intelligence-based computing power.

The improved feature of lower power consumption will help in power-hungry OLED Infinity Displays. Moreover, it will help to control battery drainage in its upcoming foldable phone which is expected to be a major battery drainer. Though this decision is not yet finalized.

According to the rumors, SoC will have a dual-core Neural Processing Unit in Samsung’s upcoming flagship smartphones like Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+ and Galaxy Note 10. In addition to that its next-generation Exynos chipset will be supporting a 5G modem.

The latest Exynos chipset supports up to the 22-megapixel rear and front cameras. but if a smartphone is having a Dual camera then it will support a 16-MP Rear and front camera. It supports  8K 30fps and 4K 120fps for video recording, 10bit HEVC/H.264/VP9 codec and LPDDR4x memory. Apart from that Mali-G76 GPU promises 40% more performance as compared to Exynos 9810.
