Being a Full Frame camera, the Sigma FP is the smallest in the world
Usually known for its Art-series of lenses for multiple camera systems, Sigma has announced the world’s smallest mirrorless and full frame camera, the Sigma FP. The FP has a 24-MP full-frame CMOS (complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor) sensor and a new L-mount that has come due to an alliance of Sigma with Leica and Panasonic. Still looking out for those words, the Sigma FP does NOT have a Foveon sensor, as of now.
Without any lens, the Sigma FP tips the scale at just 370 grams and measures 113x70x45mm (LxHxB) in size. This turns out to be just slightly larger than a regular point and shoot camera. Speaking about the design, the FP has a simplistic design language. There is no viewfinder on offer and all you have got is a fixed 3.2-inch display with 2.1 million dots. Regular use ports like an HDMI-out, flash-sync, and USB 3.1 socket are available on the side of the body.

Don’t go for the size of the camera, Sigma has put a lot of power into FP’s small body. Starting with the ISO range, the sensor is capable of 100 to a staggering 25600 ISO rating. Not only that, the ISO range can be expanded upto 6 to 102400, now that’s insane. The FP can capture 14-bit RAW DNG files, EyeAF as well as HDR images. Where most cameras have a max burst rate of 12fps images per second, Sigma FP can hit 18fps. However, the burst mode is kept limited at 12fps for the reason best known to Sigma itself.
If you are a professional photographer, there more for you, the Sigma FP comes with a range of accessories including flash brackets, grips, and eye-piece extensions. The company also said that they will be working with other third-party companies on having a more robust eco-system for the Sigma FP.
As said earlier, Sigma FP doesn’t have Foveon Lens capability as of now and the company has teased Foveon version of FP. In addition to the FP, Sigma also announced three new lenses. At present, there is no word on the price of the camera, but the company did say that the camera will be available later this fall.
